# Can Synology purchased licenses be transferred or migrated?

**Yes,** **Synology surveillance/camera/device license**and**MailPlus** **licenses** can be **migrated/transferred** to another Synology NAS or another Synology Account (**Synology Account migration** will require Synology Support's assistance ).

Here is a real license migration example from one Synology NAS to another:

![How to Migrate Synology Surveillance Camera License 2024-05-26_18-38-40](https://synopower.club/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/How-to-Migrate-Synology-Surveillance-Camera-License-2024-05-26_18-38-40.gif)

Similar logic could be applied to MailPlus license too.

Here are two FAQs in Synology official KB site regarding Surveillance Station and MailPlus for your further reference:

- [Surveillance Camera/Device License Migration/Transfer](https://kb.synology.com/Surveillance/tutorial/Can_I_migrate_surveillance_device_licenses_to_another_Synology_product)
- [MailPlus License Migration/Transfer](https://kb.synology.com/DSM/tutorial/How_to_migrate_MailPlus_licenses)

Synology licenses are divided into two types: **lifetime licenses **and **subscription licenses( type1 and type2 ).**

- **Perpetual license** Surveillance license and MailPlus license.

They are purchased once and can be used and upgraded permanently.
We could migrate them to another Synology NAS with the original registered Synology Account.
Transferring to another Synology Account will need Synology Support assistance.

- **Subscription license type1**Virtual DSM license.

Every 3 years will need to renew it for DSM upgrading.
If not renewed, the existed Virtual DSM could also work but have no future DSM update.
But package update could still work even the license is expired.

- **Subscription license type2 **Virtual Machine Manager Pro.

Need to be renewed periodically to continue using Pro feature, like snapshot to another Synology NAS.
Virtual machines could still work even the license is expired.
