The Synology CC410W assumes you have neither. It is a 4-megapixel Wi-Fi camera with two-way audio, a magnetic-friendly cylindrical body and a microSD slot, aimed squarely at the places where running cable is the whole problem \u2014 a rented shop, a stockroom, a holiday let, the far corner of a yard. The 10 m infrared range is a third of what the wired cameras manage, so this is a camera for a porch or a room, not a paddock. Do the signal check first \u2014 it is the step people skip and regret.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"rank-math-howto\" class=\"rank-math-block\" >\n<div class=\"rank-math-howto-description\">\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rank-math-steps\">\n<div id=\"step-1\" class=\"rank-math-step\">\n<h3 class=\"rank-math-step-title\">Check the Wi-Fi signal at the mounting spot<\/h3>\n<div class=\"rank-math-step-content\"><p>Before drilling anything, stand at the exact position with a phone and confirm you have a strong, stable signal on the band you intend to use. 5 GHz is faster but travels less far through walls; 2.4 GHz reaches further but is more congested. A camera that shows four bars at the desk and one bar on the wall will drop frames you never see.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"step-2\" class=\"rank-math-step\">\n<h3 class=\"rank-math-step-title\">Power the camera and join it to your network<\/h3>\n<div class=\"rank-math-step-content\"><p>Connect the supplied 5 V DC adapter \u2014 there is no PoE and no ethernet port, so the camera needs a mains socket within reach. Follow the pairing process to join the camera to your 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network. Every Synology NAS includes two device licenses; if both are already used, add a Camera License Pack first. Skip this step entirely if you are recording to the microSD card and viewing through Surveillance365, which needs no license.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"step-4\" class=\"rank-math-step\">\n<h3 class=\"rank-math-step-title\">Enable the AI events and Auto Tracking<\/h3>\n<div class=\"rank-math-step-content\"><p>Turn on the detection types you need \u2014 people, vehicle, intrusion, audio or tampering. Enable Auto Tracking if you want the view to follow a moving subject. Trigger a test event, then check the recording actually landed rather than assuming it did.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-the-on-camera-ai-detects\">What the On-Camera AI Detects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Analysis runs on the camera itself rather than on your NAS, so alerts are immediate and your NAS processor stays free. The published detection list is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>People and vehicle detection<\/strong> \u2014 separates a person or car from moving foliage, which removes most false alarms<\/li><li><strong>Intrusion detection<\/strong> \u2014 fires only when something enters a zone you draw<\/li><li><strong>Audio detection<\/strong> \u2014 triggers on sound events rather than movement<\/li><li><strong>Tampering detection<\/strong> \u2014 alerts if the camera is covered, sprayed or turned<\/li><li><strong>People and vehicle counting<\/strong> \u2014 tallies crossings over a line<\/li><li><strong>Auto Tracking<\/strong> \u2014 keeps a moving subject centred in the frame<\/li><li><strong>Instant Search<\/strong> \u2014 filters recordings by person or vehicle inside Surveillance Station<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Auto Tracking deserves a clarification, because the name misleads people.<\/strong> The Synology CC410W has a fixed-focal lens and no motorised pan or tilt head \u2014 nothing on it physically moves. Auto Tracking works by cropping and following the subject digitally inside that wide 125\u00b0 frame. It is genuinely useful, and it is not a PTZ camera. If your lease does not allow drilling cable runs through walls, the Synology CC410W plus a nearby socket is the entire installation. When you move out, it comes with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indoor coverage is where the two-way audio earns its place. A pop-up, a market stall, a unit being refurbished \u2014 anywhere the camera needs to be up for three months rather than ten years. Pair it with Surveillance365 and there is no NAS to transport either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where it fits poorly is any large outdoor area at night. Ten metres of infrared covers a doorway, not a car park. That is a BC510 job, and no amount of Wi-Fi convenience changes the physics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-the-licensing-works\">How the Licensing Works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Synology CC410W follows the same rule as the rest of the 2026 range, and it is worth stating precisely because most coverage gets it wrong. The license is charged for recording into Surveillance Station on a NAS \u2014 <strong>not for owning the camera<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>How you record<\/th><th>Where footage lives<\/th><th>Device license<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Surveillance Station on a NAS<\/td><td>NAS drives<\/td><td><strong>Required<\/strong> beyond the 2 bundled<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>microSD in the camera, viewed via Surveillance365<\/td><td>The camera&#8217;s own card<\/td><td><strong>Not required<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your NAS includes two device licenses, so the first two cameras on a new system cost nothing extra. Beyond that you need one per camera, and the multi-camera packs work out cheaper than singles. Licenses are perpetual, register to the NAS rather than to a camera, and can be reassigned if a unit fails.
