Synology products come a default number of free Surveillance Camera Licenses:
- Synology NAS(NAS): 2 licenses
- Network Video Recorder(NVR. All End of Life): 4 licenses
- Deep Learning NVR(DVA): 8 licenses
(To know all Synology support status 👉 Product Support Status)
To connect more IP cameras than the default amount, you will need additional Synology Surveillance Station License Packs (officially called Surveillance Device License Pack, or often called Synology Camera License).
Synology Camera License code is perpetual and available in 1-key,4-key and 8-key by two formats:
- paper card pack
- electronic pdf file
■ paper card pack:
Each pack contains a card with a key inside, for example:
■ electronic pdf file: (Synology only supplies to distributor or reseller)
Each license includes a unique 20-digit key (format: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx). Licenses can be combined to connect multiple IP cameras based on your requirements. For example, to connect six additional cameras, add two 1-key licenses and one 4-key license.
They can be obtained and added to Surveillance Station instantly by the following steps:

Before adding the ordered camera license(s), we strongly recommend logging your Synology NAS (Network Attached Storage) into a Synology Account (Synology official tip). This links the added licenses to your Synology account. In the future, if you need to transfer licenses in the future, this Synology Account will be required for authorization, enhancing security.
Step 3: Activate and Manage Your IP Camera #
- Once the license is added, go to Surveillance Station > IP Camera app to add more IP cameras: Add the camera to Surveillance Station
