A: Synology does not store your license key, so if it is lost, they will not be able to help recover it. That is why it is crucial to save both the key code , license card image, and the invoice by yourself.

A: Yes, you can migrate purchased license keys anytime. However, default licenses cannot be transferred.
When migration, Synology migration server will ask your sign-in Synology Account to verify the ownership in the original device. then complete the migration.
Suppose you doesn’t sign in any Synology Account but the original device is already failed, you could submit a Support ticket with license order proof. Synology Support will help you to unlock the old connection then you could install the same license in another Synology device.
If you have multiple NAS devices and want to share licenses (both default and purchased), you can set up a Centralized Management System (CMS) on Surveillance Station. The CMS host will manage all licenses across the connected NAS devices, maximizing their utilization.

A: Since Surveillance Station version 9.1.3-10869, there is no strict limit on the number of IP cameras you can connect to a Synology NAS. However, Synology recommends a range between 5 and 650 cameras depending on the model, to ensure optimal performance.
You can check the recommended camera limits for each NAS model on Synology product comparison page (for current models) or in the product specifications.
A: Most IP camera requires 1 license.

A: Synology licensing model is on-demand, meaning you do not have to purchase all the licenses upfront. You can buy additional licenses only when you need.
For example, if you need to add 3 cameras this time, you can purchase 3 Synology Camera License 1-key Packs.
If you later decide to add 5 more cameras, you can either buy 5 individual 1-key Packs (or 1 4-key Pack and 1 1-key Pack), then enter the licenses in Synology Surveillance Station > License section.
A: You can view all installed licenses and check how many are in use through the License app in Surveillance Station. If you need more licenses, you can add them here, up to the maximum number your Synology device supports. You can also remove licenses that are no longer in use.

A: Yes, if your Synology NAS/NVR isn’t connected to the internet, you can still manage licenses. You can install or delete them using either the Surveillance Station Client on a computer with internet access or the DS cam app on a mobile device.
