A: Yes, and more — SynoPower Club holds Synology top-tier partner status, both System Integrator and B2B Reseller.
Our founder Adair Hsu worked in Synology HQ Support from 2006 to 2020, and now runs SynoEXP.com, a Synology system consultancy in Taiwan. This site, SynoPower Club, also runs on a Synology NAS in Adair’s lab.
You could visit SynoEXP.com in Synology > Where to Buy in Taiwan > Taipei > System Integrator.
A: Immediately.
After payment, your license key appears on the checkout page immediately. You could directly copy it to install in your Surveillance Station, MailPlus or Virtual Machine Manager.
At the same time, one automatic email with license key and invoice is also sent to your address.
You can also find it in your SynoPower account if you’ve registered.
Reference:
A: Synology does not store your license key, so if it is lost, they will not be able to help recover it. That is why it is crucial to save the key code, the license card image and the invoice yourself.
When purchasing from SynoPower Club, backup becomes more convenient.
The license key and invoice are automatically emailed to you. This is the 1st backup.
You could also request license photo from us. This is the 2nd backup.
This actually ensures the full backup and warranty to your ordered license.
Reference:
A: You receive a confirmation email as soon as the order is placed, and the license key is on the confirmation screen and in that email straight away.
A: Because the license key is delivered immediately after payment — on screen and by email with the invoice — there is no window in which the order sits unfulfilled.
If you need to cancel or change something, reply to that order email and we will handle it case by case. See our warranty and return policy for what qualifies.
A: Yes. Synology licenses are not region-locked. A license bought from any legitimate partner or reseller activates on a Synology NAS anywhere in the world.
We are listed in Synology > Where to buy > Taipei > SynoEXP LTD, so the keys you get here are ordinary official keys with no territorial restriction.
A: No need to renew. Once activated, the camera license is valid forever, including the free default licenses. Synology frequently updates their software, especially Synology Surveillance Station.
There are easy-to-follow instructions for transferring licenses to a new or replacement NAS, making it a true one-time purchase.
This applies to Surveillance Station and MailPlus licenses. Virtualisation licenses work differently: a Virtual DSM license includes three years of software upgrades and the instance keeps running afterwards, and a VMM Pro license is sold for a fixed term (we stock 1-year and 3-year). When it lapses the Pro features stop — scheduled snapshots, replication and live migration — while basic Virtual Machine Manager carries on, so your virtual machines are not affected.
Reference:
A: The number of free licenses depends on the product:
• Synology NAS: 2 free licenses
• Network Video Recorder (discontinued): 4 free licenses
• Deep Learning NVR: 8 free licenses
You’ll only need to buy extra licenses if your setup exceeds the default amount.
References:
A: Yes, you can migrate purchased license keys anytime. However, default licenses cannot be transferred.
When migration, Synology migration server asks you to sign in to your Synology Account to verify ownership of the original device, then completes the migration.
If you never signed in to a Synology Account and the original device has already failed, you can submit a Support ticket with license order proof. Synology Support will help you to unlock the old connection then you could install the same license in another Synology device.
If you have multiple NAS devices and want to share licenses (both default and purchased), you can set up a Centralized Management System (CMS) on Surveillance Station. The CMS host will manage all licenses across the connected NAS devices, maximizing their utilization.

A: Since Surveillance Station version 9.1.3-10869, there is no strict limit on the number of IP cameras you can connect to a Synology NAS. However, Synology recommends a range between 5 and 650 cameras depending on the model, to ensure optimal performance.
You can check the recommended camera limits for each NAS model on Synology product comparison page (for current models) or in the product specifications.
A: Most IP camera requires 1 license.
• IP cameras, I/O modules and speakers generally count as 1 license per device
• Multi-lens or analog systems such as video servers may require 3 to 8 licenses per unit
• Synology LiveCam (the mobile app) counts as 1 license
A: Synology licensing model is on-demand, meaning you do not have to purchase all the licenses upfront. You can buy additional licenses only when you need them.
For example, if you need to add 3 cameras this time, you can purchase 3 Synology Camera License 1-key Packs.
If you later decide to add 5 more cameras, you can either buy 5 individual 1-key Packs (or 1 4-key Pack and 1 1-key Pack), then enter the licenses in Synology Surveillance Station > License section.
A: You can view all installed licenses and check how many are in use through the License app in Surveillance Station. If you need more licenses, you can add them here, up to the maximum number your Synology device supports. You can also remove licenses that are no longer in use.
Reference:
A: Yes, if your Synology NAS/NVR isn’t connected to the internet, you can still manage licenses. You can install or delete them using either the Surveillance Station Client on a computer with internet access or the DS cam app on a mobile device.
References:
A: Yes, you can.
Simply delete the IP camera from Synology Surveillance Station, and the license will be released. You can then reassign that same license, whether default or purchased, to another IP camera.
A: If your Synology NAS supports MailPlus Server, the number of free licenses is 5.
You’ll only need to buy extra licenses if your setup exceeds the default email amount. Synology MailPlus License Packs are available for 5 or 20 active email accounts.
References:
A: No need to renew for the added Synology MailPlus License(s). They are perpetual with lifetime update.
Once activated, Synology MailPlus License is valid forever. There are easy-to-follow instructions for transferring licenses to a new or replacement NAS, making it a true one-time purchase.
Reference:
A: Yes, you can migrate purchased license keys anytime. However, default free 5 licenses cannot be transferred.
Steps to Transfer Licenses:
References:
A: No, Synology MailPlus licenses are tied to the Synology account used during activation. You can not do that by yourself.
However, you could submit a support ticket, provide the required info and Synology Support could assist that. SynoPower Club support could assist that if you order MailPlus licenses here.
A: Surveillance camera and MailPlus licenses are perpetual, and both can be migrated to another Synology NAS under the same Synology account. Moving a license to a different Synology account cannot be done on your own and needs a Synology support ticket. The free default licenses that came with your hardware cannot be moved at all.
Synology documents the procedure for each: surveillance device license migration and MailPlus license migration.
Virtual DSM is also perpetual, but what it carries is three years of software updates rather than a three-year term. Virtual Machine Manager Pro is the only genuinely time-limited license we sell.
A: For camera and MailPlus licenses, no. They are one-time purchases with no renewal, and they include all future updates for as long as you use the software.
Virtual DSM is a perpetual license with three years of software updates. After three years the instance keeps running; what stops is the supply of new features and security updates until a new key is added.
Virtual Machine Manager Pro is sold by period, 1 or 3 years. When it lapses the Pro features stop and basic Virtual Machine Manager carries on, so your virtual machines are not affected.
A: We offer a 60-day full refund if the Synology license key has not been activated.
This policy ensures protection for both customers and license integrity.
Besides, every license purchase includes free technical support from a ex-Synology HQ Senior Support, with over decades of experience helping users worldwide.
References:
A: Refunds are issued through Stripe/PayPal and normally land immediately, with an email notification. If you want to check on one, just reply to your SynoPower order email and we will trace it for you.
A: Once we receive your return or request, allow 3–5 business days for processing. The amount goes back to the same payment method you used, or by international transfer where that is not possible.
